BLC Couples Ministry - "Called to Covenant"

Weekly Devotional

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE…Galatians 5:22
Praise the Lord! This is Evangelist Melveeta Harewood, co-Pastor of Bethel Life Centre continuing our series on the
“Fruit of the Spirit. This week we will talk about Peace. Have your Bible handy, as well as a pen and some paper;
jot down the Scripture references to study later. If you have any questions about any of our topics please feel free
to send them to us using our Feedback page on this website, or by email.  I’ll give you the address at the end of this
message.  Now, on to our topic…
What is this "peace" enjoyed by those who walk in the Spirit? How does one come to have this peace? How can we
preserve this peace in our relationships? We must first define Peace. According to Webster’s dictionary peace is the
absence of violence or conflict. The biblical definition of PEACE is quite different. In our Scripture, Peace means
having an inner harmony, something that can be brought about only by the grace of God. So rather than simply an
absence of conflict, the peace God provides is positive in nature and in which there is active fellowship, harmony
and concord between individuals. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 29:8, "Scornful men bring a city into a snare:
but wise men turn away wrath."
It is foolish to start arguments but it's wise to keep the peace. Jesus said,
"Blessed are the peacemakers." How can you be a peacemaker in your relationships?  First, understand that making Peace is
not avoiding a problem. When you avoid a conflict by running from a problem that is not peacemaking, that is being a coward.
Next, know that Peacemaking is not encouraging another person for the sake of peace.  You don’t always have to give
in to the other person, and they should not expect you to.  That’s called manipulation. God does not expect you to be a doormat.

Come back in two weeks when we will use the letters in the word PEACE to spell out the plan for becoming a peacemaker.

"Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in

every way. The Lord be with you all." (2 Thessalonians 3:16)Amen!
